About Us
When the places are real, the people become real; and when the people are real, the stories become real.
It is the nature of things; and that’s exactly what makes Thangamale Diaries authentic and real. As long as there are stories worth sharing, one will always connect to appreciate a work of art – be it a novel, a short story, a verse, a poem, in this case, a film. That is what we believe in.
Sanna’s origin, where he was brought up, people he mingled with, laughed with, cried with, the breeze, the mist, the trees and everything about the Welimada valley play an integral role in this story. With a history of estate cultivation, British rule and endless natural beauty, Welimada valley is where it all happens – where the story unfolds.
This movie is produced and directed by Upul Shantha Sannasgala who was born in Thangamale, Welimada valley in 1964. This film is inspired by his real-life socio-political experiences associated with his village throughout fifty years.
